Dean’s
involvement with curling goes well beyond his artwork. He has been
curling since the age of nine and has had some notable success over
the years. In 1988 his team won the BC High School Championship,
followed by the Canadian Junior title in 1989. Most recently he
skipped his team to the 2001 and 2007 BC Men’s Championship and fulfilled his
childhood dream of curling in the Brier.
Dean never strayed far from the rink spending 17 years as an ice
tech, 6 years as a club professional and countless summers
instructing at curling camps. His competitive endeavors have taken
him across Canada and overseas to Scotland and Japan.

Dean was born in 1971 in Victoria British Columbia. He grew up
in Coombs, BC where his family operated a sod farm. He enjoyed
sports and was avid at soccer, tennis, golf, baseball and (of
course) curling. His keen eye for art started at an early age,
receiving his first award in grade 6 before taking any formal
art courses. Dean’s drive for precision and accuracy led him to
draw portraits in grades 9 and 10. In the early 90’s, the
natural beauty of the west coast captured Dean’s eye and he
began to study and draw Orca whales. In 1999, he created whale
drawings for his first set of limited edition prints. More
recently, Dean established a creative drawing concept called –
Art of Curling. The concept unites the sport of curling with
images of the natural environment. |
